It all started in the distant 1964 when grandfather Lazarus started making children's shoes. Since then, Savvas made the same decision alongside with his wife Katie and now Aris with his wife Effie.
All of them different people with different education, born in different eras, all shared the same love for the smell of good leather shoes, the same need to create with their own hands and the same enthusiasm for fashion and children.
Certainly technology has greatly modernized our factory compared to that first factory of grandfather Lazarus, making our daily life much easier. However, the shoe that you will wear even today has passed dozens of times by human hand. It is not a product that comes in from one side of a machine and comes out from the other and that makes each pair unique, because it is simply impossible to be the same as any other.
Someone could say that a factory that makes children's shoes obviously intends to make many, many children's shoes. But it is easy to understand that someone has to choose between many, many pairs and to make a shoe that will live many, many years.
We decided on the second one.
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries right now. The collections change rapidly and the old ones go to waste. Of course everything that goes in the trash is not unsuitable for use. Almost all of them have not even been worn.
We do not know in which neighborhood you grew up, but in the neighborhood where we grew up it was very common for children to give worn out clothes and shoes to younger children. This in itself is a very healthy practice that has a lot to offer to the planet and has a lot to teach to our children.
We have since seen many children wear their new shoes and spend the next few days just looking at them. Believe us, they are no less excited because it is second hand.
But can all shoes be worn again?
The children's shoe is "tortured" a lot in its life cycle, even when worn only once. It took a lot of testing to decide which combination of materials-construction-design is the most durable for each age.
We made all this effort to be able to sleep peacefully at night knowing the shoe we made will not be worn once and thrown in a landfill.
We kept on using leather as our basic material, because it is the most durable, the healthiest for the foot and if it has undergone natural treatment before it reaches our hands, then it is the material that will become one with nature easier at the end of its life.
After many seasons focusing on "after sales", we can say that our shoes are for many toys, for many runs and can be worn again.
If all of the above seems like a good idea, check out our Love-Return-Relove program that you will find here.
Recycling our materials is not something that has started to happen now, it has always happened because it is obviously an element of economy for the factory. In recent years we decided to do it more creatively and have a good time!
Some of the leathers remaining from our cutting process, become children's accessories. Just because it is a product of this process, they are all unique and you can find them in our partner's kid's shoe stores. The rest is given to craftsmen and artists who make keychains, dolls and many more that we will present to you from our site. Stay tuned!
The paper boxes containing our raw materials are reused to send our own parcels and χαρτιά που έρχονται τυλιγμένα τα δέρματα μας, χρησιμοποιούνται στην παραγωγή μας. Οι The soles that are left behind go back to the suppliers to become soles again.
It is not a trick, it is not something we are saying for communication reasons, it is just self-evident!
How many times have you bought something for your child from a well-known brand, having imagined the factory kind of like Santa Clause's village but then you find out that the product was produced in a much warmer climate than the North Pole?
We believe that the consumer today can and should be informed about the history behind the product he holds in his hands. Transparency in production is something we as consumers demand for what we buy and we are proud to be able to offer it to our own customers.
Our suppliers are factories that we know that respect employees, provide them with the financial means to live properly, respect their free time and protect their health. Most of them have their production in Greece and maintain the business of their fathers and grandfathers with personal effort and not from an office somewhere far away.
As for our own production - and when we say production we mean from the uncut leather to the finished shoe in its box - it is made exclusively in Athens and the employees are either employees who are over ten years in this job and 30 years in the industry or young employees who have chosen to learn the art of shoemaking. There is no one of us, whatever his job, who does not also hold a position in the production process. So each shoe goes through the hands of each of us many times before it reaches you and we all respect each other's work, because we understand its difficulty.
If you need additional information in relation to our production you can contact us and in the context of the transparency we promised here you can find the list of our suppliers.
Many times in history, fashion has ignored comfort and functionality, a great example being corsets or high heels. But we are talking about children's shoes here and these are the ones that will give "shape" to the adult's gait. Many parents choose shoes for their children based on what they like, for example ancient Greek sandals or plastic sneakers, misled by fashion and ignoring that the kid's foot has different needs than the adult because it is still developing.
According to experts, before a child takes his first steps - around the age of one - his feet should be free to grow barefoot. This changes as soon as the child starts to walk. Then the kid needs a shoe that will help his feet to shape and at the same time will protect them.
Older kids' shoes are even more demanding, as they must manage in more intense activities (running, climbing, etc.) Any orthopedic problems, up to the age of six, can be prevented by choosing the right shoe. Typically, research shows that 96% of children are born with very healthy legs, while only 40% of them reach adulthood without corresponding orthopedic problems.
Having over 50 years of experience in crafting kid's shoes we can be certain that we know how to make a proper anatomical kid's shoe, at every stage of the kid's foot development. After all, these are the same shoes we wore as children.
The ascent to the arch
The hard foam anatomy at the height of the arch of the foot, is the first and main feature of the anatomical shoe, as it helps with the correct posture of the feet and therefore the whole body.
The stable heel
Especially for the first steps of the child, it is crucial that the shoe embraces the heel in a stable way for the gait to be correct and the soft bones of the child's foot to be protected.
The right heel height
The difference in heel-toe height is such that the body weight is evenly distributed between the heel and the metatarsals. Without burdening either of the above, causing future orthopedic problems.
The right last
It is often that adult lasts are adapted to children's numbers, ignoring the fact that the child's foot has its own peculiarity, its own forms. The use of purely children's lasts was a rule for us from the beginning, despite the cost that this has for each number and form separately.
The right design
So why then?
If all the above reasons were not enough, we remind you that by supporting us, you support all the kid's shoes stores in your neighborhood so that they can be there and advise you on the right shoe for your child.
Because each pair of shoes must be unique, as unique is the time when the little foot will be so little centimeters.
